Walking in Purpose: From Becoming to Living

"Purpose is not something you discover once—it is something you choose to live every day."

In the past few months, we have talked about freedom, healing, identity, and becoming. Each lesson has helped us prepare for the next step: learning to live with purpose every day.

A lot of people think purpose is a place they will reach once they have everything figured out. But Scripture shows us something different. Purpose is not a finish line. It is a journey of following God faithfully, one step at a time.

If you are starting something new, rebuilding after a setback, or just looking for God's guidance, remember this: your purpose is not waiting for you in the future. God is calling you to live it today.

Finding purpose is a journey.
Finding purpose is a journey.

Week One: Purpose Is Not a Destination "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

Many of us wait until everything is clear before we act. We want to see the whole plan before we move forward. But in the Bible, God often showed only the next step rather than the whole journey.

Abraham left his home without knowing his destination. Ruth followed Naomi even though she did not know what would happen. Peter got out of the boat before he knew what was coming next.

We find our purpose as we keep moving forward in faith. Trust God with your next step, and let Him guide you from there.

Common Hindrances

  • Feeling stuck while waiting for everything to be certain

  • Worrying about making the wrong choice

  • Comparing yourself to where others are in their journey

  • Thinking that your purpose only matters if it is something extraordinary

Faith-Based Solutions

  • Let God lead you forward.

  • Pay attention to being obedient today.

  • Try not to compare yourself to others.

  • Keep in mind that being faithful can help you find your purpose.

Week Two: Obedience Over Perfection

"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much." (Luke 16:10)

Sometimes, perfectionism looks like we are just getting ready.

We often tell ourselves we need more experience, more confidence, or the right timing before we start. But God does not ask us to be perfect. He asks us to be faithful.

Moses doubted himself. Esther felt afraid. Gideon wondered if he was able. Still, each of them learned that God gives what is needed to those who are willing to obey.

We find purpose by taking small steps of obedience, not by doing everything perfectly.

Common Hindrances

  • Worrying about failing

  • Thinking too much about things

  • Doubting your own abilities

  • Measuring yourself against other people

Faith-Based Solutions

  • Begin even if you don’t feel completely prepared.

  • Allow yourself to grow at your own pace.

  • Focus on obedience rather than on being perfect.

  • Remember that God gives what you need to do what He asks.

Week Three: Staying Grounded While Growing

"Continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him." (Colossians 2:6-7)

Growth is a wonderful gift, but if we grow without spiritual grounding, we can end up feeling worn out.

Our culture often celebrates being busy, but God calls us to stay rooted in Him. Prayer, rest, reflection, and healthy boundaries are not distractions from your purpose; they help you keep going.

Like a tree needs deep roots to stand strong in a storm, we need a solid spiritual foundation to keep growing.

Common Hindrances

  • Always feeling busy

  • Taking on too much

  • Not making time for God.

  • Feeling like you always have to get things done

Faith-Based Solutions

  • Prioritize time with God.

  • Protect your peace.

  • Build rhythms of rest.

  • Measure success by faithfulness rather than productivity.

Week Four: Purpose in Every Season

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Purpose doesn't always look the same, but it is always present.

Some seasons are for building. Others are for healing, waiting, serving, resting, or beginning again.

Joseph's purpose looked different in the pit than it did in the palace. Naomi's purpose looked different in grief than in restoration. David's journey took him from shepherd to king.

So every season has a purpose because God is present in every season.

So instead of wishing you were somewhere else, ask God what He wants to teach you where you are today.

Common Hindrances

  • Comparing your journey to someone else's

  • Feeling like you're falling behind

  • Struggling to accept change

  • Getting discouraged when progress feels slow

Faith-Based Solutions

  • Appreciate where you are right now.

  • Have faith that things will happen at the right time.

  • Take time to notice and celebrate how far you have come.

  • Try to find something to be grateful for each day.

Becoming in Action

Living with purpose is not about waiting for a single life-changing moment.

Instead, it means choosing to follow God each day with faith.

This month, try to take the next step forward instead of waiting until everything feels certain. Choose obedience over perfection. Stay connected to Christ as you grow, and embrace the season you are in. Trust that God is at work, even if you cannot see the results yet.

Purpose is not something you discover far off in the future.

It becomes clear as you take each step in faith.

Reflection Questions

  • Is there a step of faith God is inviting me to take right now?

  • Are there places where perfectionism has held me back from moving forward?

  • What practices or habits help me stay spiritually grounded?

  • How might I embrace this season of life rather than resist it?

Monthly Challenge

Think of one part of your life where you have been waiting for the perfect moment to start.

This month, decide to take one step forward in faith.

Pray before you act, trust God as you go, and celebrate each bit of progress you make.

Keep in mind that purpose is not about being perfect.

It is about being faithful.
