Visionary Voices is a special edition of the Empowered to Live podcast. This month, I was joined by four amazing women who shared their fears, faith, and journeys to wholeness.
This week’s Visionary Voices conversation created space for deeper, more honest reflection on identity, healing, and purpose.
There are moments in life that shape how we see ourselves, sometimes in ways we don’t fully recognize until much later.
Experiences that leave an imprint.
Seasons that stretch us.
Moments that quietly redefine our identity.
And if we’re not intentional, we begin to see ourselves through what we’ve been through instead of who we are becoming.
“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…” (Revelation 12:11)
There is power in testimony.
Not because everything is resolved.
But because healing is unfolding.
Identity Is Shaped, but Not Fixed
Each woman shared how her experiences shaped her self-perception, sometimes through pain, sometimes through survival, and sometimes through silence.
But identity is not meant to stay rooted in what happened.
It is meant to grow.
Healing Is Not Linear
Healing did not look the same for any of them.
For some, it meant learning to name what was once hidden.
For others, it meant releasing expectations or redefining strength.
But one thing was consistent:
Healing required honesty.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

Purpose Is Often Shaped by What We’ve Walked Through
What once felt like pain became:
• Compassion
• Clarity
• Strength
• Direction
Purpose was not separate from their story.
It was shaped by it.
“…who comforts us… so that we can comfort others…” (2 Corinthians 1:3–4)
A Word for the Woman Who Feels Stuck
If you are in a place where you feel defined by what you’ve been through, this is your reminder:
You are not stuck.
You are in process.
You are becoming.
Reflection Questions
What part of this conversation resonated with me most?
Where have I allowed my past to shape my identity?
What would it look like to begin seeing myself differently?
Journal Prompt
If I were no longer defined by my past, who would I be becoming?
Closing Thought
Healing is not about going back.
It’s about moving forward—with faith, with honesty, and with the understanding that your story still holds purpose.
