Overcoming Obstacles on Your Journey to Becoming

Becoming the person God meant you to be is not always easy. Many of us face self-doubt, pressure from others, and fear of failing. These challenges can make it hard to know who you are or what your purpose is. I understand this because I had to overcome child abuse and domestic violence in my own life. Instead of letting those experiences define me, I used them as the starting point for the Becoming Woman's Network and the Empowered to Live podcast. In this post, I’ll talk about some common struggles on this journey and share practical tips and spiritual encouragement to help you keep moving forward.

Facing Self-Doubt and Its Impact on Identity
Self-doubt is one of the most common obstacles on the path to becoming who God created you to be. It whispers that you are not enough, not worthy, or not capable. These thoughts can paralyze your progress and make you question your purpose.
For example, after surviving abuse, I often felt unworthy of love and success. The voice of self-doubt was loud, telling me I could never rise above my past. But I learned that self-doubt is not a reflection of truth. It is a challenge to overcome, but one you can overcome by focusing on God's promises and your unique gifts.
Practical steps to overcome self-doubt:
Write down affirmations based on scripture that remind you of your worth.
Surround yourself with supportive people who encourage your growth.
Celebrate small victories to gradually build confidence.
Reflect on past challenges you have overcome as proof of your strength.
Spiritually, remember that God's love is unconditional. Psalm 139:14 says, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." This truth can anchor your identity when doubt tries to take hold.
Navigating Societal Pressures That Distort Your Purpose
Society often sets expectations that do not match what God wants for your life. Family, culture, and social media can all pressure you to fit in rather than be your true self.
From my own experience, society tried to label me based on my past or the roles I was expected to fill. It was hard but important to let go of these labels. I had to focus on hearing God's voice instead of all the outside noise.
Ways to resist societal pressures:
Set boundaries with people who do not support your authentic self.
Limit exposure to media that promote unrealistic or harmful ideals.
Seek community with others who share your values and encourage your growth.
Spend time in prayer and meditation to discern God's unique plan for you.
Remember, your purpose is not to fit a mold but to fulfill the calling God placed on your life. Romans 12:2 encourages us not to conform to the world but to be transformed by renewing our minds.
Overcoming Fear of Failure That Holds You Back
Fear of failure can keep you from moving toward your calling. You might avoid risks or new chances because you worry about what others think or about letting yourself down.
I faced this fear many times when I started the Becoming Woman's Network and the Empowered to Live podcast. The fear of failing or being judged felt very real. Over time, I learned that failure is part of growing. Every setback taught me something valuable and helped me get closer to my purpose.
Tips to move past fear of failure:
Reframe failure as a learning experience, not a final verdict.
Set realistic goals and break them into manageable steps.
Practice self-compassion when things don't go as planned.
Visualize success and the positive impact your efforts can have.
Spiritually, trust that God works through all circumstances. Romans 8:28 reminds us that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him." This promise can give courage to face fears and keep moving forward.
Using Your Story to Inspire and Empower Others
Your struggles do not have to hold you back. They can become a source of strength and inspiration. Sharing your story can help others feel less alone and encourage them to pursue their own journey.
My story of overcoming abuse and violence led me to create spaces like the Becoming Woman's Network and the Empowered to Live podcast. These platforms allow me to connect with others who face similar challenges and offer hope.
How to use your story positively:
Be honest but protect your boundaries about what you share.
Focus on the lessons learned and growth achieved.
Offer practical advice based on your experiences.
Encourage others to seek help and support when needed.
Your testimony can be a powerful tool for building community and fostering healing.
